I don’t oppose the Wondy/Supes relationship in concept. I haven’t read any of the Nu52 stuff, but I’ve liked it in some elseworlds.

I do strongly disagree with the subtext of this confession that Supes & Lois aren’t equals.

Also, Superman and Lois Lane IS a relationship born of friendship. 

What about the subtext that Diana can only be with someone who she is not physically stronger than?

It’s like the gut response to Diana being in a relationship tends towards panic if she happens to be more powerful. The idea I get is cavemen nerdthings going: OH NO STRONG WOMAN, CANNOT HAVE WOMAN AM STRONGER THAN MAN! ME READER HATE STRONG CHARACTER IF NOT AM JUST LIKE ME! QUICK GIVE STRONG WOMAN TO STRONGER MAN! THEN WOMAN NOT TOO STRONG FOR ME READER! ME READER HATE WOMAN WHO AM STRONGER THAN MAN!

I hadn’t thought of that before.

I think it’s probably true for some, though not all, because there are lots of relationships in comics where the woman is more powerful than the guy and folks ship them anyway.

Although now that I think of it, TBH a lot of the Wondy/Superman shipping is probably less comic fandom & more casuals.

Wondy & Supes are two of the big characters non-comics fans know, so you get more people putting them together.

Meanwhile nobody cares that Jean Grey is more powerful than Cyclops or Wolverine, or Rogue (during most of her history) way stronger than Gambit.

I would have never thought of Rock as Lobo, but somehow it works.

Also as someone who saw the Crow as teenager, Michael Wincott could, and probably should, voice damn near every “destroyer of worlds” type character ever.
